Soft And Plush Chenille Robes

The bathrobe has been part of the wardrobe for men, women and children for centuries with the beginning of the robe, which was a loose fitting outer garment. Earlier robes were called a dressing gown, kimonos among others. Over the course of time, synthetic fabrics among natural fibers have become a part in the making of the bathrobe. Today, the bathrobe is worn when getting out of the shower or pool to cover up, as well as for added warmth. Often, the bathrobe is continued to be used to cover up for modesty purposes, as well as a type of comfortable loungewear at home.

Chenille fabric has been around since the 18th century. The name came from the French. Chenille, in French means Caterpillar. The caterpillarhas long hairs and is soft and fluffy. Chenille typically is made from cotton fibers. However, today, chenille is made with synthetics such as rayon, acrylic and olefin. The term Chenille refers to the process used when making the chenille fabrics. Many of us may remember the cotton chenille bedspreads with all of the tufted designs the would eventually loosen up as the threads worked away.

Chenille bathrobes of high quality are soft, and warm. It is recommended that they be professionally cleaned. However, if they are washed at home, it is advised to wash them, alone, in a large tub of cold water and fluff dry immediately. The textures and styles will vary from wide chenille to narrow, with and without pockets, as well as various lengths. The primary downfall of chenille robes, is that they shed and the extra fibers which loosen may be more than a home washer can handle. When purchasing a chenille robe, be sure that there are at least 5 different sizes to try on in order to get the best fit.

The most popular style of men and women's chenille bathrobes is the kimono style. Others close by the use of zippers and snaps. Hooded bathrobes is a newer style which has become popular in the past few years. Lengths vary from short to very long. The next time you visit the spa, feel that rich looking, soft robe because it is a chenille bathrobe. For those who might like to dress alike at home, couples can obtain matching sets of chenille robes. High fashion, high quality chenille robes can be found for around $100 or less. It pays to do price comparisons and check the quality of the garment.
